It is a bronze sculpture created by Ernesto Lamagna ( Napoli 1945) at the end of the Great Millennium Jubilee and is located in the entrance vestibule of the church. It is the last Angel to be added to the Basilica. As it is a modern interpretation it is quite different to the other angels depicted but it does not create a sense of disharmony.
This figure emerges from a black pyramid and cuts a very defined shape. It is of a combined baroque futurist style which is typical of Lamagna's works. The effect of ageing the bronze should be noted: Lamagna treated the bronze with special acids to create an effect of grey iron with cracks, crevices and holes. The bronze looks similar to the sculptures created by Michelangelo who aged his materials by burying them.
